Sunlight is so important to our bodies as an energizing force and for
facilitating
all kinds of activity. This is especially true in rooms where we spend
our mornings. Sunlight has a direct impact on our mood and can
encourage optimal performance. (No wonder everybody wants a window
office!)
Of
course, if you have the time and resources, installing skylights or
larger windows would make a big impact. For most of us, though, we're
looking for low-cost, high-impact solutions.
Here are a few ways to infuse darker rooms with energy to help simulate the outdoors:
1.
Increase the intensity of electric lights or better yet, install
full-spectrum bulbs--they bring in the full range of natural light.
2.
In kitchens/dining rooms/breakfast areas adorn surfaces with colorful
table linens and/or keepbaskets of fruits and vegetables on display.
3.
Encourge movement by placing wind-sensitive objects by doors and air
vents. Small wind chimes and delicate-leaved plants work very well.
4. Increase energy with background sounds such as ticking clocks, music, fans, or chimes.
5. Bring in scents from outdoors with fragrant plants (cut flowers, evergreen branches, etc.)
6. If the room has even a small window, simply opening it to encourage air movement can create a delightful change.
Try some of these tips to bring the energy of outdoors into your space. You'll feel better for it.
